 What you do

Reporting directly to the Associate Director, Commercial, the Lead Business Case Writer will play a crucial role in our consultancy by developing comprehensive and persuasive business cases for major infrastructure projects. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality business cases that align with our clients’ strategic objectives. 

The ideal candidate will have experience in developing Business Cases to meeting Government expectations (e.g. DTF guidelines) and a strong background in business analysis (including Multi-Criteria Analysis and Cost-Benefit Analysis), excellent writing skills, and experience in the infrastructure sector. 

As a Lead Business Case Writer you will:

  • Develop comprehensive business cases for major infrastructure projects, including feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, and risk assessments.
  • Conduct thorough research and analysis to support business case development (including multi-criteria analysis).
  • Ensure business cases are aligned with the strategic objectives of clients and comply with relevant guidelines and standards. 
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information.
  • Perform detailed financial modeling and economic analysis to assess project feasibility, return on investment (ROI), cost-benefit analysis, and risk assessment for client projects.
  • Translate complex financial data and technical information into clear, concise, and persuasive business case documents tailored to client needs.
  • Ensure all client business case reports and economics papers are aligned with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and client objectives.
  • Provide strategic recommendations based on business case findings to support client decision-making and prioritisation of projects.
  • Continuously improve business case writing processes and methodologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Engage with client stakeholders to understand their needs, gather feedback, and incorporate their perspectives into business case development.

Who you are

Candidates should possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in business case writing, financial analysis, or a related role within the water, environment, or energy sectors.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing high-quality business cases aligned to specific requirements and economics papers for clients.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, with proficiency in relevant software tools (e.g., Excel, financial modeling software).
  • Ability to contribute to writing technical and commercial documents, as well as business proposals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear and persuasive documents tailored to client needs.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
